Having a fixed mindset can stunt your growth in life. Factors of a fixed mindset can include lack of confidence, giving up easily, avoiding challenges, fear of failure, and not asking to help. No one likes dealing with low self-esteem and low confidence, including myself. Growing up, I never fully loved myself. I always let what other said about me affect me and get to me. When that happened, I started believing those words. Those with a fixed mindset tend to give up easily. When the going gets tough, sometimes we just give up because we feel that all hope is lost. We may also choose to avoid challenges because we are too scared of what the outcome could be. Fear of failure plays a role in that too. When one thinks of failure, most times we equate it with not being intelligent or not being good enough. We may even decide not to ask for help because we may feel embarrassed, stupid, insecure, and defensive. We may feel like not being able to do it on our own will cripple us. In fact, it is the complete opposite.

Having a growth mindset involves a variety of things such as persistence, more confidence in your own abilities, embracing challenges, asking for help, and looking at failure as an opportunity to learn. Instead of telling yourself that you cannot do it, turn your negative words into positive words. Turn your cant's into cans and your wont's into wills. Building confidence does not happen overnight. It is a process. Take small steps of progression to get there. Embrace any challenge that comes your way. No matter how hard they can get, challenges are there to build you up, not tear you down. Learn to look at failure as an opportunity to learn. We all fail sometimes. It is okay to fall and stumble, but you can always get back up and keep going. Once you learn from your mistakes, apply it the next time. Along with this, there is nothing wrong with asking for help. A closed mouth will not get fed. For all of the kids and teens out there, utilizes the resources around you in school and at home. The teachers, counselors, and parents are there to support you. Do not be afraid to ask for help. Do not be ashamed either! There is no such thing as a dumb question. Ask as many questions as possible!

Having that growth mindset is so important in life. It can expand your creativity. It can aid in your problem-solving skills. It can enhance your ability to face challenges. You can do anything you put your mind to! You just have to believe in yourself. Jump those hurdles! Climb those mountains! Run through those obstacles! Ask yourself this question: how bad do you want it? If you want it band enough, you will do whatever it takes to get it!
