THE GIFT OF TIME

I just read a rather interesting article on “How Time is Meaningless Now” which got me thinking... We humans have such a strange relationship with time. It is either never enough or, it is too much! How often have we said “I don’t have the time” as our list of to-dos kept on increasing like a never ending yarn. And now, when some of us have time at our disposal, somehow we don’t know what to do with it.
Quarantine during Covid- 19 has given us a gift and that gift is TIME. For every occasion when you wished you had just one more hour to the day, or one more day to the week, this is your gift.
I salute the health workers all over the world and all of those engaged in the fight against Covid-19 because for them, time has taken on a whole new meaning. It is in fact a race — a race against time, a unimaginable race like never before. But for the rest? What can we do with this newfound time that has been bestowed upon us like a pit-less jar, testing our patience and our resilience.
This is time for PAUSE.
Now is the time for reflection, introspection and self-awareness. Many of us have been so caught up in the pace of life and day to day commitments and responsibilities that we had not taken time for the pause necessary to think of ourselves and the life that we have created around us. Are we happy with life as we know it? Is there anything we would like to change ? Is there anything we need to look at differently? Is there anything within ourselves that would serve us to change? It is time to rediscover ourselves.
It is time to BUILD.
Let’s build on our relationships, be it with family, friends, colleagues or the community. It is time to reach out, and time to support. We are all in this together and it is together that we will come out ahead of things. This is a great time to build on our business les as well and to revisit strategies, market trends, and strategic positioning — what will our next move be ?
It is time for GRATITUDE.
Let’s count our blessings. In a time where there is so much going on and we find ourselves amidst uncertainty, anxiety and emotional turmoil, let us not forget to appreciate what we do have. Let’s make note of all the little blessings that colour our daily lives, there is so much to be grateful for. Let’s focus on positives and keep holding on to positive thoughts and energy. This is what will be required to persevere through this phase.
“I wish it need not have happened in my time,” said Frodo.
“So do I,” said Gandalf, “and so do all who live to see such times. But that is not for them to decide. All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given us.”
― J.R.R. Tolkien
When life gives us challenges, we have a choice. Perspective and positive action are key.
